URL Encoder & Decoder

Make text safe to put inside a web address, or turn %20-style text back into normal text. Use the swap button to change direction.

Text / JSON → URL-encoded

What is URL encoding?

Web addresses can only contain a limited set of characters. Spaces, symbols and non-English letters are replaced with a percent sign and a code, for example a space becomes %20 and & becomes %26. This is also called percent-encoding.

When to use it

Use it when you build links with search terms, pass values in a query string, or need to read a long link full of %20 and %3D. It encodes every special character, so it is meant for the value part of a link rather than a whole web address. When decoding, a + sign is treated as a space, as in web forms.

Is my data safe?

Yes. Everything happens in your browser and nothing is uploaded. If the text contains a broken % code, the tool shows a plain error message instead of failing silently.
